Rev. Derrick Perkins, Sr., D. D.
Rev.
Perkins was born on August 7, 1964 to Deacon James & Lenora
Perkins, of Hampton, VA.
He is the sixth child of six children.
He
accepted his calling to the Gospel Ministry, February 1992,
preached his initial sermon and was licensed by
Miracle
Temple Church.
On October
5, 1997, Rev. Perkins was ordained by Shalom Baptist
Church, received his
Ordination Certificate, and immediately began serving in the
ordinances of the Church. God continued to order his steps in
the ministry. He ministered at various churches on the east
coast. On Apri1 26, 1999, Shalom Baptist
Church called Rev. Perkins
to serve as Interim Pastor for six months. During that time,
God's spirit was ushered in to reign over the Church, unity was
implemented, and several souls were added. On
Monday, October 11, 1999, at
8:04 p.m. by a unanimous decision, Shalom Baptist
Church called Rev. Derrick
Perkins, Sr. to serve as the Pastor.
To further
his education, he enrolled in Boyce Bible
College from 1992 to 1995.
He transferred to
United
Christian
College, in 1996, where he graduated
as Salutatorian of his class with a Bachelor in Theology (BTH),
Apri1 30, 1999. May
2000, Rev. Perkins received an Honorary Doctorate Degree.
At present, Rev. Perkins
is a student at Virginia University of Lynchburg, “School on the
Hill,” seeking another Doctorate Degree in Religious Studies.
He has been
married for almost 21 years to Iris Franklin and has two
children, Derrick, Jr., and Aegious Simone¢.
He is truly
a man of God who lives what he preaches. He does not come to
take any glory for himself, but for God to be glorified.
..and how shall they hear without a preacher? ...and how shall
they preach except they be sent?"
